We did it! Garth and I have taken the big, scary yet wonderful step. We just bought our first flat here in London.
It took 10 different estate agents, 4 months, 47 viewings, 1 loosing bid, 1 accepted offer, 4 weeks wait for the mortgage to come trough, 1 seller who almost pulled out and 1 big portion of stubbornness. But now we can proudly call ourselves the new owners of a ground floor Victorian garden flat with an abundance of potential.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a dream home, yet. Actually it's not even liveable at the moment, unless you fancy mold and a hole in the wall between the kitchen and the bathroom. Even though a tub with a kitchen view sounds quite appealing, we will have to rebuild EVERYTHING.
- First we are moving the kitchen in to what is now the master bedroom and removing the wall between it and the living room, to create an open plan living space in the front of the property. The room has a lovely fireplace and lots of evening sun, so I can see myself throwing some lovely dinner parties in this space.
- After this we move on to build a full wrap-around extension in the back. The old kitchen will become a guest bedroom, the bathroom will get a bit bigger and the tiny bedroom in the end will be our very spacious master bedroom with glass doors leading out to the garden. Dreamy!
As you might understand its a bit of a project, especially for us who are first time buyers. Luckily Garth is a project manager for a big construction company. So we will have really good help and input, otherwise I would be way to scared to do all of this.
The best bit about it is that we have rented furnished so far, so we have to buy all new furniture! For me this is such an exciting opportunity to play around with a completely blank canvas and create our home from scratch.
I really hope you will follow our adventure here on my page at RoyalDesign and on my blog at stureplan.se
