The first step to take when choosing a sideboard is to measure the dimensions of the area where you plan on putting it. You will also need to measure the dimensions of any adjacent furniture to ensure the size does not stray too far off. Otherwise, you may have furniture of differing depths. A seamless layout is always preferable.

Next, determine the size and storage space you want. How many cupboards and drawers do you need? Is there space to open the cupboard door fully or will it be impeded by other furniture or a wall? 

Finally, choose the material and finish you like. Do you like lightweight plastic sideboards with a pastel finish? Or do you prefer a solid glossy wood unit?
