To make it more interesting, maybe use a round design instead of a horizontal or vertical shaped one. Look for decorative frames to add presence in your room—frames that have their own unique shape.

- You can make a windowless room brighter, lift the gloom and add some life. Create this illusion by using separated framed mirror panes.

- Similarly, you can brighten a dark corner by placing a mirror behind a table lamp or pairing it with reflective accessories to maximise the light.

- Make your space appear larger by placing several of the same style mirrors together on the main wall. The illusion can double your space. Also, try grouping together different ones to give a bare wall some ‘oomph’.

If you are considering a Feng Shui approach to interior design, here are a couple of pointers for using mirrors to their best advantage.

- Don’t place them in the kitchen— this is considered ‘negative’ energy.

- Make sure your reflection is of a lovely view like a decorative vase or a painting, not your coats hanging up!

- Placing them in the hallway produces positive energy. Try to position them towards the front of the hall, perpendicular to the door. 

- They are also useful on landings where they can work to open the space up.

- Avoid placing them overlooking your workspace—not a positive effect.

- Living room mirrors have positive energy and are encouraged in Feng Shui design.

- Do not hang them over beds or sofas. This creates a negative impact, as it decreases the feeling of being safe and secure by having a mirror hanging over your head.
