Visiting Hanna Knutssons Country Escape

How do you find the place where everything falls into place? Where winding roads lead to something of your own, where stillness meets creativity, and where the dream of a beautiful plank floor becomes reality? For Hanna Knutsson, Head of Own Brands at Royal Design, it took over three years before she and her partner found their summer house on Väddö. Here, among beautiful archipelago surroundings and friendly neighbors, they have created a home that breathes calm, warmth, and inspiration.

Tell us about your new summer house – how did you find it, and what made you fall for it?

My partner and I had been searching for a summer house for over three years, on and off. We looked at so many cottages – both high and low end. It was a useful process because it helped us figure out what we actually wanted (and just as much, what we didn’t want). I found this particular house through a tip from a colleague who has a place in the same area. What caught my interest immediately was the large terrace and the wooden floor inside the house – I’ve been dreaming of proper plank floors for ages!

In the end, the purchase went pretty quickly. My partner went to the viewing alone because I was in Greece at the time. He made an offer even though I hadn’t seen the place in real life – and we got it! But I knew I would love it.

How would you describe the feeling and atmosphere here on Väddö?

This place is calm and peaceful – truly idyllic. The people in the area are incredibly friendly and kind. I love all the winding little roads that lead out here – the cozy feeling starts as soon as you turn onto them.

What does it mean to you to have a place outside the city?

It gives me a sense of comfort – knowing there’s a place to go when the city noise becomes too much. I’ve really longed for that. At the same time, I don’t think I’d want to live in this kind of calm permanently – I’d get too restless. But as a complement to city life, it’s perfect. Being able to go here whenever I want or need to – that suits me just right.
