Semi is a pendant from the Gubi brand, designed by Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup, and comes in three different sizes with a diameter of 30, 47 and 60 centimeters. The pendant light fits well above a dining table as a kitchen lamp, thanks to its generous downward direct light. The shape opens up to many different uses, regardless of home or environment. Its design and simplicity make the lamp timeless and will always be a favorite in many homes.
The architecture students Torsten Thorup and Claus Bonderup sat on each side of the country and sent drawings and ideas back and forth. One evening in 1968, they got the idea for this lamp after being inspired by geometric shapes from two-fourths circles. They submitted the lamp as a competition grant and they won for their unique design. The lamp then celebrated great success in the 1980s with its timelessness and became a bestseller. Now, more than 40 years later, the semi-lamp hangs over the dining table and in the living room of several homes around the world.
